A petition demanding the Ethiopian government to stop its state-sponsored human rights abuses and deportations on citizens in Oromia and the Ethiopian Somali region has collected more than 400 signatures internationally. The petition will be submitted to the Ethiopian Government and the United Nations Security Council once it reaches its goal. The petition, hosted on Change.org, can be accessed here (a copy is also posted below).
Over the last several weeks, more than 100 people have been killed in the border crisis between Oromia and the Ethiopian Somali region in eastern Ethiopia; and more than 50,000 have been displaced from their homes, according to the latest news reports. Oromo and Ethiopian Somali human rights activists accuse the Ethiopian Federal Government of instigating and fueling the crisis using proxy regional leaders.
