Back in November 2016, BBC, one of the world’s largest media organizations, announced that it would start radio transmission in Afaan Oromoo, among other Horn of African languages. Afaan Oromoo is the mother-tongue more than 40 million in the Horn of Africa, and is one of the top five widely-spoken African languages.
As part of the rollout of the radio service, BBC Afaan Oromoo kicked off its publication on Facebook @bbcnewsafaanoromoo on September 10, 2017. The first post was an offering of blessings to God/Waaqa. The radio service is expected to start by the end of 2017.
