Colonel Aliye Cirri, one of the pioneers and veterans of Oromo resistance movement, is gravely ill and in need of our assistance.
Most of you may have heard of his name from artist Haacaaluu Hundessaa’s 2013 album in which he sings, “Aliyyii Cirriitu beekaa, isaa beekaa, karaa dhombiriin dhukaatee, way dhukaatee…” Haji Aliye Cirri, now in his late 90s, is a decorated Oromo hero, part of the 1960s generation that launched the Oromo armed struggle against the feudal Haile Selassie regime.Born and raised in Madda Walabu, the cradle of Oromo civilization, Aliye Cirri joined the armed struggle in the early 1960s along with the late General Waqo Gutu. He spent most of his youth and adult age fighting to bring freedom and justice to the Oromo people.
